In America, a woman is raped every 15 seconds. Worldwide, the numbers are shocking.
The problem doesn't end there; as many as one in nine men may have experienced sexual abuse as a child.  Even with the horrible truth that a survivor is not alone in this tragedy(far from it in fact) so many feel they are.   Sadly, there are few who have experienced sexual violence that are able to speak out or even get help.  You don't have to live locked in silence.

What can I do to help?
The facts are sad and dark. To put it simply, a lot of people aren't getting the help they need. That's why it's up to us to become advocates for those who have no voice. There are many ways to help. You may be thinking, "I'm only one person, how can I possibly make a difference?" All it takes is one.
One thing you can do is write a letter. Go to
Congress.org , type in your zip code and find your representatives. Then, search around and find out which acts or bills are being considered for passage.  Write to your reps asking them to support these acts- you can even call them to ask where they stand on these issues! Congress.org   provides you with the email addresses, fax numbers and multiple addresses for your reps from senators all the way up to the President.

Another thing you can do is take action in your own community.
V-day.org  has a list of all kinds of things you can do to raise awareness in your area- they especially focus on raising awareness on school and college campuses. You can also visit Rainn.org   to find out how you can become involved in their new online hotline or a variety of events. All you have to do is submit your email address and they will send you all the information you need. There are many ways to help.  (Please help us support RAINN by checking out our RAINNMaker page)

You could be a part of our PhoneRaiser against sexual violence ! Profits will benefit RAINN, RCCCC and VOAM.

You could even donate to RAINN for free by searching online!  Check out GoodSearch.com   and choose RAINN as your designated charity, then search and shop as you normally would!  GoodSearch donates 1 cent per search and a percentage of what you spend online (amount varies by seller.)

Get this Awareness Kit from Mariska Hargitay and sport your "No Disrespect" tattoo to help fight domestic violence and abuse.
